Still on the drama that recently evolved as the wife to the President and First Lady of Nigeria, Aisha Buhari declared plans to rename a private University after her husband, president Muhammadu Buhari, the University of Ibadan chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has expressed disgust over the First lady’s move.
On Tuesday, ASUU attacked the Federal Government regarding the proposed plan to establish a private university to be named after President Muhammadu Buhari. ASUU described it as a disaster about to happen, adding that the plan confirmed why her husband has continued to reduce budgetary allocation to education since he assumed office in 2015.
According to the Chairman of ASUU, the University of Ibadan chapter, Professor Deji Omole, who strongly condemned the act while speaking to journalists said, he saw the proposal as a joke taken too far.
“If we have a President in a country that has simply refused to fund public education and all we get from the first family is to establish a private university in collaboration with some foreigners, it is a disaster for this country and for a sitting President. The implication is that Nigerians should know that this leadership does not believe in public funded education.”
Aisha Buhari made the announcement to establish and name a private University after her husband, President Muhammadu Buhari at a town hall meeting in Yola over the weekend.
