Senator Douye Diri, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Bayelsa state governorship election, says he wholesomely rejects the outcome of the poll.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had earlier declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), David Lyon, as the winner of the election.
However, speaking with Arise News TV on Monday, November 18, Diri said he rejected the results, raising allegations of electoral malpractices.
He accused INEC of conniving with the APC to rig the election. "This is no election, it is a charade," the PDP governorship candidate alleged. "In Nembe, there was nothing like election, the results were manufactured by INEC and APC," Diri said.
Diri also claimed that the military was deployed to rig the election. He claimed that the PDP won in areas of the state where proper elections took place.
"Those results are written figures, they do not reflect the wishes of our people. PDP won in every place proper elections took place," he alleged.
Asked what actions he would take regarding the outcome of the election, Diri said he would consult with his party both at the state and the national levels to know the next line of action to take, noting that he did not contest the election as an independent candidate.
