A member of the House of Representatives, Jafaru Iliyasu Auna, has reportedly died in Abuja after a brief illness.
Premium Times reports that the lawmaker who represents Magama/Rijau federal constituency of Niger state died on Monday morning, December 2. The newspaper citing a close associate of the lawmaker stated that Illiyasu in his sleep.
“He came back from Lagos last night, went to sleep but did not wake up,” he source said. Another newspaper, Daily Trust reports that Auna died at the Maitama General Hospital in Abuja.
According to Daily Trust, Auna's death was confirmed by another lawmaker from Niger state, Sa’idu Musa Abdullahi who said the deceased came back from a trip to Lagos on Sunday night, December 1, and died early on Monday, December 2.
In another news report, President Muhammadu Buhari, in the afternoon of Sunday, December 1, said he was shocked and saddened by the death of a top Kano businessman, Tijjani Rabiu. Buhari described the incident as the fall of another star.
The president condoled the family of the deceased and the Kano state government of Rabiu’s demise. Garba Shehu, one of Buhari's spokespersons, said the president categorically said the death of Rabiu was "the fall of another star in the galaxy of commerce and trade in Northern Nigeria.
The late Rabiu was the immediate younger brother of the business tycoon, Isyaku Rabiu, who is also dead.
