Given the current outcry over the abuse of human and civil rights as evidenced in the government's treatment of the embattled Omoleye Sowore who was rearrested inside the courtroom despite having been granted bail by the justice system, the PUNCH Newspaper in an editorial that went viral early this morning revealed that in all future publications, the prefix "President" before Muhammadu Buhari will be replaced by "Major General".
See an excerpt from the editorial:
“As a symbolic demonstration of our protest against autocracy and military-style repression, PUNCH (all our print newspapers, The PUNCH, Saturday PUNCH, Sunday PUNCH, PUNCH Sports Extra, and digital platforms, most especially Punchng.com) will henceforth prefix Buhari’s name with his rank as a military dictator in the 80s, Major General, and refer to his administration as a regime, until they purge themselves of their insufferable contempt for the rule of law.”This move has led to various reactions online with the majority hailing the media house for this action.
